Why Rust players care about hours
In Rust, hours are a quick filter. Teams recruiting on Discord, clans and some community servers ask for a minimum number of hours, and players glance at each other's Steam profiles before trusting a new teammate. The number they check is the Stunden aufgezeichnet Steam shows for Rust on your profile and in your library.
What hour idling does for Rust
An hour idler signs in to Steam and reports Rust as running. Steam counts that time towards Rust's hours on record, the same counter your own play adds to. HourIdler runs that session on its servers, so the game is never downloaded or launched and your PC can stay off.
Rust is a paid game, so the account must own it. Idling cannot add hours to a game the account does not have a license for.
How long it takes
A game gains at most 24 hours per calendar day. Idling other games alongside Rust does not speed Rust up.
| Hours added to Rust | Running 24/7 | Running 12 hours a day |
|---|---|---|
| 500 hours | about 21 days | about 42 days |
| 1,000 hours | about 42 days | about 83 days |
| 2,000 hours | about 83 days | about 167 days |
| 5,000 hours | about 208 days | about 417 days |
Those are best cases. Your own play sessions, Steam outages and sign-in prompts pause the count. Work out your own target with the Steam hours calculator.
What boosted hours will not fool
- Server trackers. Sites such as BattleMetrics record time spent on the servers they monitor, and admins compare it with Steam hours. An idled session never joins a server, so none of that time appears there.
- Your gameplay. Hours do not teach building, raiding or PvP. A teammate will notice within a wipe.
- Account history. A new account with thousands of hours and no other activity stands out.
Use idling to get past a simple hours filter or to keep the counter growing while you are away, not to pretend to experience you do not have.
Anti-cheat and bans
Rust's Steam page lists Valve Anti-Cheat, and Facepunch also uses Easy Anti-Cheat. Both work on the game running on your computer and the servers you join. An idled session does neither: no Rust files run anywhere, and no server sees you connect. Rust game bans come from what an account does in the game, not from playtime.
Read why idling is not a VAC question for the full reasoning and its limits. No provider can promise how Valve or Facepunch will treat every tool in future.
Make sure people can see your hours
Boosted hours only help if others can see them. In Steam, open your profile, choose Edit Profile, then Privacy Settings:
- Set Game details to Public (or Friends Only if that is who checks).
- Leave Always keep my total playtime private unticked, or your hours stay hidden even with public game details.
Set up Rust hour idling
- Create a free HourIdler account. Free includes 2 Steam accounts, up to 32 selected games each and unlimited hours.
- Add the Steam account that owns Rust, preferably with QR approval in the Steam Mobile app.
- Offen Games for that account, search for Rust (app 252490) and save.
- Press Start and wait until the account shows as idling. Then close the browser or switch your PC off.
- Check your Steam profile later; Steam updates the visible counter on its own schedule.
When you launch Rust yourself, Steam moves the playing state to your PC and your real session counts as normal. Automatischer Neustart resumes idling after you log off. The full setup guide covers Steam Guard and schedules.
Rust trading cards
Rust has Steam trading cards, so playtime can also earn its card drops if the account is not limited and drops remain on the Rust badge page. Steam gives each game a fixed number of drops. On paid plans, Kartenbauer collects them automatically; the AFK-Karten-Farming-Leitfaden explains eligibility.
Häufige Fragen
Can I get banned for boosting Rust hours?
Idling does not run Rust or connect to a Rust server, so the game's anti-cheat has nothing to inspect. Bans in Rust follow what an account does in the game.
Do idled hours count on Rust servers?
No. Servers and server trackers only count time you spend connected to them. Idling adds to Steam's hours on record only.
Can I idle Rust and other games at the same time?
Yes, up to 32 games per account. Each game gains its own hours; Rust's counter still rises by at most 24 hours a day.
Will my friends see me playing Rust?
By default they see you in game. HourIdler's account settings can show you as Offline or Invisible instead, and paid plans can replace the game name with your own text.
