Check whether your games can drop cards
- Sign in to Steam, open your profile and choose Badges. Open the game's badge and check drops remaining i How do I earn card drops?.
- Confirm you own a qualifying license. Shared library access is not ownership; some games claimed in free promotions do not qualify even if their store page lists trading cards.
- Check whether Steam marks the account as limited. Valve explains which purchases or Wallet additions count toward its US$5 threshold in Limited User Accounts. Received gifts and activated retail keys do not count as qualifying spend.
- For participating free-to-play games, check purchase-based drop entitlement. Simply owning or idling a free game does not create drops.
Use your Badges page before buying automation. Card support on a store page is not a promise that your account has drops available. See ASF's official eligibility notes for limited accounts, promotional licenses and private games.
Ordinary drops, badges and booster packs
At zero remaining drops, idling longer cannot replenish ordinary playtime drops. Crafting or selling the cards does not reset that count. Obtain missing cards through trading or the Community Market. Booster packs use a separate eligibility system: check your badge page rather than expecting a recurring reward for hours idled.
Valve's Steam Trading Cards FAQ explains ordinary drops, purchase-based free-to-play drops and booster eligibility. There is no fixed drop timetable to rely on. Measure remaining drops and inventory changes, not an assumed number of cards per hour.
Set up AFK farming in HourIdler
- Create an HourIdler account and complete any required email verification. Free includes 2 Steam accounts, 32 selected games per account and unlimited idle hours.
- Open dashboard Accounts → Add Account. Select QR login, scan with Steam Mobile and approve the request after checking its details. This provides a hosted session token without sending HourIdler your Steam password. Password login is also available with Steam Guard; the password is encrypted at rest and decrypted when authentication requires it.
- Check that the connected account has games with drops remaining. Automatic Karciany Rolnik requires Starter, Pro or Lifetime.
- Open dashboard Karciany Rolnik, choose the connected account or accounts and press Start Card Farmer. The service scans eligible games automatically. Review the queue and remaining-drop counts; the farmer runs one game at a time per account. Adjust the optional per-game time cap only if needed. HourIdler prioritizes estimated card value and rotates eligible games.
- Check the dashboard status, then compare Steam inventory and remaining drops later. Once the hosted session is active, close the browser or turn off your PC. A conflicting Steam play session can interrupt farming.
The hosted server reports selected games as active without downloading or launching game executables. The dashboard controls the session. Read credential access and retention before connecting an account.
For manual farming, select one eligible game for hour idling, monitor its drops and switch at zero. Farmers may build required playtime across games before farming drops; selecting many games for hours is not a promise of faster cards. Follow the PC-off walkthrough for hour-idling setup.
No cards dropping? Troubleshoot the cause
| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| Zero remaining drops | The ordinary pool is exhausted. Switch games; badge crafting will not refill it. |
| No eligible games found | Check the Badges page, limited status, license ownership, free promotions and game privacy. |
| Offline or needs authentication | Complete Steam Guard or reconnect by QR if requested. Avoid repeated logins while Steam rate-limits access. |
| Hours rise but no cards arrive | Check drops remain and Card Farmer is active. Try one eligible game manually and allow for Steam delays; no fixed interval is guaranteed. |
| Farming pauses during normal play | Stop the other idler or finish normal play, then check Auto-Restart and account status. |
| A game is skipped | Check eligibility and remaining drops. Steam scanning errors may be temporary; refresh once access recovers. |
If hours themselves are not increasing, use the hours troubleshooting checklist. Tell support the account status, game ID and approximate time, never passwords or tokens.
HourIdler or ArchiSteamFarm?
ASF is a free C#/.NET tool you host on a PC, server or container. It supports multiple accounts, automatic farming and a web interface. A server can keep ASF running with your home PC off. HourIdler manages hosting and offers a browser dashboard; you trust it with session access and pay for automatic Card Farmer.
Compare the options in the hosted versus ASF comparison, or follow ASF's setup documentation. Neither tool can create new eligible drops or guarantee earnings.
Use cards or sell them?
Keep cards for badge crafting, trade them or sell eligible items on Steam's Community Market. Sale proceeds are Steam Wallet funds and are subject to market eligibility and fees. Listing prices are not guaranteed sale prices. Review actual buy orders and your eligible drops before paying for automation; HourIdler has no verified typical earnings figure.
Read the idling and VAC explanation for account-safety context. HourIdler is independent and not endorsed by Valve. Steam controls its rules and enforcement; no provider can guarantee protection against every account restriction.
